“Watership Down”, while being about rabbits, is about survival, loss, goverment, battles, and creating a new community. The challenge here was portraying the intellectual side of the book, but also including rabbits, an animal most people think of as fuzzy, cuddly, cute, and brings eggs full of candy to children once a year. My solution was to make the rabbits seem less cuddly, and more fierce. Taking out all color and creating sharp geometric shapes counteract the stereotypical portrayal of rabbits. To make this a true “book experience” I came up with the idea for an app and website which teach about the author, characters, chapter reviews, and the references the story has to government.
